A TIME TO GIVE BACK | SUPPORTING JAY AND SWEETIE BIRD

As a nonprofit organization, we are thoughtful about maintaining a boundary around personal fundraising campaigns.

Jay and Sweetie Bird are an exception.

For more than fifteen years, they have devoted their lives to serving others as traditional healers, spiritual advisors, and generous friends. Through ceremony, prayer, teachings, and countless quiet acts of kindness, they have walked beside so many with humility, compassion, and unwavering dedication. They are treasured members of the Shamans Directory community, and we are deeply grateful for all they have given — and for the many lives they have touched along the way.

Many of you know Jay through his remarkable story of becoming a healer. His is not a story of choosing a profession — it is a story of answering an unmistakable calling.

Today, Jay finds himself walking a different path.

Following major surgery for lung cancer, Sweetie has rarely left Jay's side, lovingly caring for him while also supporting their family, including their two young children. As so often happens, those who have quietly devoted their lives to caring for others now find themselves in the unfamiliar position of receiving the care of their community.

When members of our Board of Directors learned of Jay's diagnosis, they agreed that this was one of those rare moments when Shamans Directory should step forward.

At the same time, another dear friend, Indigenous author, teacher, and healer, Asha Frost, immediately recognized the need and graciously created a GoFundMe campaign. What has unfolded since then has been a beautiful weaving together of two communities, of people whose lives have been touched by Jay and Sweetie, coming together in a shared expression of gratitude, reciprocity, and love.

The response has been deeply moving. Together, we have already raised more than $8000 — a beautiful beginning and a testament to how deeply Jay and Sweetie are loved.

Now, let's reach and surpass our goal together!

This is an invitation to practice reciprocity, a value that we strive to uphold as a community. Those who have carried the fire for so many others deserve to feel the warmth of our circle around them.
